Transforming Nickel Mining in Indonesia (January)
Following the tragic fire at the IMIP nickel smelter in December 2023, which claimed 21 lives and injured dozens, CNV Internationaal and local unions presented 25 demands in January to improve safety and working conditions. This sparked a collaborative reform initiative addressing dire conditions at Sulawesi's smelting facilities.
First Union in Guatemala’s Palm Oil Sector (February)
In February, workers at a Guatemalan palm oil plantation founded the sector's first union. This courageous milestone came amid challenging conditions where workers face retaliation for union activities.
Women’s Committees on Palm Oil Plantations in Indonesia (March)
In March, 25 women-led committees were established on Indonesian palm oil plantations to address health and safety risks like pesticide exposure and gender-based violence.
ACT Agreement Success in Cambodia (March)
By March, CNV Internationaal helped facilitate multi-factory collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) through ACT-listed factories, improving wages and working conditions for thousands of garment workers.
EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) (April)
After delays earlier in the year the European Union adopted the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive in April. This directive holds companies accountable for labor rights and environmental sustainability.
Boosting Cashew Sector Advocacy in Côte d’Ivoire (April)
In April, CNV Internationaal published a report on labor challenges in Côte d’Ivoire’s cashew sector, laying the groundwork for reforms to address informal work and low wages.
Colombia's Just Transition Initiative (April)
CNV Internationaal supported ex-miners transitioning to sustainable industries, leading to Colombia’s first cooperative established in April 2024 for former coal workers and advancing green economic opportunities.

In September Fair Work Monitor data bolstered unions' efforts in minimum wage negotiations, securing a modest increase despite persistent gaps.
Investigating and Launching Work in Senegal's Horticulture Sector (October)
In October, CNV Internationaal began its work in Senegal’s horticulture sector, focusing on improving conditions for female and youth workers. Initial research revealed unsafe working environments, gender-based violence, and a lack of worker representation. Collaboration with unions and local organizations aims to empower these workers and advocate for systemic change in the sector.
Addressing Heat Stress in Central America (November)
The “Safe from Heat, Strong at Work” campaign, launched in November, addressed heat-related health risks among sugarcane workers, promoting safety measures and social dialogue.
